Board of Assessment Review
The Board of Assessment Review is responsible for hearing appeals of property tax abatement decisions made by the Assessor. The Board will hold public hearings as needed, make findings of fact and conclusions in accordance with state law, and issue written decisions and finding of facts. Decisions of the Board are subject to appeal to Superior Court or the State Board of Property tax Review.
Per Topsham Ordinance, Chapter 6, Article IV, § 6-13 (D), Board of Assessment Review:
"A Board of Assessment Review is adopted pursuant to 30-A M.R.S.A. § 2526, Subsection 6, and shall consist of three members and two alternates. Initially, one member shall be appointed for one year, one member for two years and one member for three years. One alternate shall be appointed for one year and one alternate for two years. Thereafter, the term of each new member or alternate is three years."
