Welcome to the Topsham Public Works Department
About Us
The Topsham Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the current infrastructure of the Town and building new infrastructure when needed. Duties include removing items such as tree branches off the road, maintaining public green spaces, plowing snow in the winter, and maintaining and repairing sidewalks, among others.
The Public Works Department allows for the town of Topsham to run smoothly, ensuring that the town remains aesthetically and practically cohesive.
Job Opening: Deputy Director of Public Works, application, and job description available on the Town's website.
Late Fall and Early Winter 2024
The department is currently finishing up several summer projects including the paving of Main Street and a drainage project on Lewiston Road. As you prepare for winter by cleaning up your leaves and other yard debris, please take them to the Transfer site. The Town does not offer curb side services.
Also, now is a good time to clear your valuable items away from the road and out of the Town's "right of way". Planters by mailboxes, trailers or vehicles parked by the road and basketball hoops if you have one on the side of the road, all need to be taken back into your yard and stored for the season. Please understand that a plow drivers cannot see all of these special items while plowing during a storm and we don't want to damage anything. If you don't remove them from the "right of way" and they are damaged, the Town will not be responsible for the damage. If you have any questions please give Public Works a call at 725-1728.
When it does snow this winter, the Town may post a parking ban to allow more efficient plowing of our streets. You can check this website, the Town's website or the local TV stations to see if there is one posted. If there is a parking ban posted, your car will be towed and removed from the street at the owner's expense.
Please as a reminder, it is illegal to plow snow across a public street. Also, don't plow snow onto Town sidewalks, forcing pedestrians into the street. The department has approximately 15 miles of sidewalks to maintain and 8 plow routes to cover the approximately 100 miles of roads. Your cooperation is deeply appreciated.
As a courtesy to Topsham residents, the Town does have winter sand available at two locations, one at Public Works and the other at the Town Office at 100 Main Street. There is a two pail limit, and this material is for Topsham residents only.
Street Lights
The street lights in our town are now owned by the Town. They have been changed to energy efficient LED fixtures. If you have a light out in your neighborhood, please contact Public Works at 725-1728 and leave the pole number and closest street address to the light.
Thank you for your cooperation.
