Route 196/Lewiston Rd over I-295 Bridge Joint Rehabilitation
The Maine Department of Transportation has programmed a bridge preservation project for Bridge #6307 which carries Route 196/Lewiston Rd over I-295. This letter will serve to outline the proposed scope of work, approximate schedule, funding, and give the City and Residents the opportunity to respond to the proposed project.
SCOPE: The work includes the rehabilitation of the bridge joints in the travel lanes and replacement of the bridge joints within the raised median island.
MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC: The work will be completed with nightly lane closures, maintaining traffic in both directions at all times. Daytime lane shifts may also occur to allow daytime access to the raised median island, however, 2 lanes of traffic in both directions will be always maintained during the day.
SCHEDULE: The project is currently scheduled to be advertised in April/May of 2026 with construction expected to occur between June and October of 2026.
FUNDING: The total project cost is currently estimated to be $765,000.00 including engineering, construction, and inspection and will consist entirely of Federal Highway, and State of Maine funds.
